Chief Joseph and Beach School - Benefit Auctions

It is my honor and privilege to be a part of this community and I feel it also my responsibility to give back by supporting local schools and neighborhood organizations.

With that, I would like to tell you about two great benefit auctions. The first one is called "Night of Magic" and supports Chief Joseph Elementary School in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood. The second is Beach Elementary Benefit/Auction and this school is in the Overlook neighborhood.

Everyone is aware that Art and Science programs have been cut from our schools; and through donations to PTA organizations the schools are able to pay local professional artists and others who provide rich learning and developmental programs. Both schools have recently upgraded their playground equipment thanks to generous donations by area residents and businesses. Beach School also funds an after school program for homeless students through these and other fundraisers. The list is too long for me to include here but there are many great services and programs that could use your help and/or your companies help.

What I am asking for is $25 to $200 cash donations from individuals and the same or more from businesses. Of course you can take the deduction on your '08 return and I've included the tax id #s below. You can mail your checks directly to the schools or send them or drop them off at Art & Sole.

You don't have to donate cash. We typically donate shoes and buy an ad in the program. The shoes are auctioned off to the highest bidder. I got my awesome new skateboard at last years auction and I've been saving my money for this years, in hopes of winning a bid on a night on the town or a beach getaway.

I personally feel that this is, hands down the best investment I will make this year (next to our little league team). Together we can make an impact for many North Portland Children!

Please call me if you have any questions or comments.

If you are interested in attending either of these events please click here to go to our website where all the details can be seen. If you are a Jack Straw fan you should check it out!

Tickets for Night Of Magic can be purchased at the schools or at Art & Sole. $20/per person. Tickets for The Beach event are $25 and should be available for purchase here and at the school in a few weeks.

Velocity by Crocs

I've been looking forward to getting this shoe in my store since I saw it last fall. What I like about it is the slip and oil resistant sole; this material will generally outlast other shoes by a year or two. Plus it has a very wide in the toe box and is deep enough to accommodate most orthodics.
Crocs lists the following as additional features:

• leather uppers
• ideal for the food service and hospitality industries
• innovative design exceeds industry standards, incorporating crocs lock™ tread for slip resistance
• enhanced arch support
• footbed circulation nubs stimulate blood flow
• footbed conforms to your foot creating a custom fit
Price: $65.
Mens 7,8,9,10,11,12,13
Womens ,8,9,10,11,12
Unfortunately we did not get womens 7,8,9 or mens 13
Color choices are black/black and black/Chili (chili {red} is the color of the sole)

We also have the Bistro which features the same slip/oil resistant sole.
The last two styles I should mention that we carry are the Specialist and the All-Terrain and I will try to get some images posted here as time permits.

(My) Art & Sole Mission

Art & Sole is committed to improving the quality of life for our customers, through comfortable footwear. That is the mission of my store and something I became accustom to seeing growing up in my Dad's shops; a customer comes in with foot trouble which is making them miserable, we determine and sell the best shoe we can to that customer. We see them 2 weeks later and they are so happy and comfortable in their new shoes. This made a big impression on me and I have never lost the passion I have for helping people in this way. It's a small thing and I don't kid myself about the relative importance of my job compared to other professions, but when you have sore feet and your body is hurting because of it, I am here to say "you do not have to suffer"!

As far as shoe repair goes... the number of repair shops in Portland is steadily dropping (just like the rest of the world) and it is sad to see but that is just the reality of our times. I am willing to do minor repairs; sewing, shines, stretching, some heels, and the occasional Birkenstock. My focus is primarily on selling new shoes (Dansko, Sanita, Red Wing, WORX, Robeez and CROCS) that are comfortable and durable. If you need custom repair work, new zippers, resoling and the like you can get in touch with me and I can probably refer you to someone qualified.

To learn more about my store please click here to visit our website and by all means come into the shop. We are open Tuesday - Friday 10-6 and Saturday 12-5. We are located at 6517 N. Interstate at Rosa Parks Blvd. Call 5o3-285-SHOE or toll-free 877-285-SHOE. http://www.ARTnSOLE.net
